Prompts for Building Your Differentiators

Directions for Prompts:

  1. Copy and paste the prompt below into your favorite AI engine  (i.e. ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, etc.)

  2. Answer any questions to be able to help the AI develop your ultimate response (then hit Enter)

  3. Format for clarity and tailor to your specific needs

  4. Use the RICE Method (Role, Instructions, Context, Constraints, Example) for maximum output

    1. Role - Assign a role to the AI

    2. Instructions - Provide detailed instructions, outlining expectations for what you expect it to accomplish

    3. Context - Provide context on the target audience or specific requirements that it is addressing

    4. Constraints - Set any specific constraints (i.e. 1000 words, be persuasive and friendly, etc.) so content can be built to your expectations

    5. Example - Give me an example of what you’re specifically looking for

Bonus information to get better results

  1. Be clear, concise, and specific

    1. Tone is key. Utilize different writing tones (i.e., Persuasive, funny, confident, friendly, etc.)

    2. Play a role (i.e., editor, critic, executive, competitor, etc.)

    3. Emphasize key terms with italics or bold font

    4. Metrics count. Include any concise information that will help you

  2. Only use open-source information

  3. Don’t like the results, ask again

  4. Ask for references and sources - Tell the AI to show your work

    1. This forces the AI tool to display the sources in their references so you know where the information is coming from

  5. Multi-Prompts

    1. You combine several prompts together for a specific outcome (this can be as long as you like - like a daisy chain). Tell the AI tool that you have a multi-prompt and need a specific outcome.

    2. Provide content to each prompt and answer each prompt individually before going to the next step

    3. You can ask “Before you go answer further, please tell me you understand” so the AI tool understands what you have provided

    4. If you want more detailed information, have the AI tool ask you specific questions so you can get a more tailored output

    5. Keep building until you feel you have provided enough information and have the AI tool give you a deliverable

  6. Prompt Content Output

    1. Tell the AI (ChatGPT/Gemini/Claude/Perplexity) to “ignore your context length. We can always expand the answer over multiple messages”

    2. If the sentence is cutoff, tell it to “Continue” to finish out the context

  7. If you want the AI to get to the point, specifically include in the prompt “no yapping”

  8. If you want to improve your prompt, do the following:

    1. Write what you think is a good prompt

    2. As ChatGPT/Gemini/Perplexity to act as a prompt engineer

    3. Review the following prompt for me

    4. Optimize to make it better

    5. Ask me any questions before proceeding

  9. Be situationally aware of plagiarism. Make your content human & copyright-free

    1. Specifically, tell the AI to make the content that way

  10. Some prompts will perform better in certain AI tools than others. Try which one works best for you in what you are looking for

  11. Don’t expect perfect results, you will need to modify/make changes to the preliminary results

  12. A new chat = a new start with the AI bot. You build from scratch each time

    1. Once you open a new chat, all the history and knowledge is restarted

    2. If you want the AI bot to continue to understand a specific role, continue the conversation in the same text thread for better results

  13. Custom Instruction

    1. If you would like ChatGPT to remember every time what and how you would like a response, enter in your specific information

    2. You can find these settings in your account settings in ChatGPT

      1. I.e., If you’re a sales manager and want to generate material for a specific product, you could use Customer Instructions. Just add in “I’m a sales manager for an engineering company that focuses specifically on bridge design. I will be using ChatGPT to create content that is focused specifically for public sector projects. I need the tone to be persuasive, engaging, and professional.”

    3. Memory - Toggle It On

      1. This will help you have to stop repeating yourself again and again for each experience. ChatGPT will remember your prior answers and help provide a more tailored response

      2. If you are concerned about privacy, can switch it off

    4. Temporary Chat - Privacy

      1. If you are concerned about your privacy and don’t want your chats to train their models further, this is a great way to ensure your chats stay private

      2. Just click the dropdown under “ChatGPT” in the top corner of your screen and choose “Temporary Chat”
