Using Perplexity Deep Research to Find Your Next Teaming Partner
And streamline your research with AI in minutes.

Perplexity’s Deep Research came out a few weeks ago.
What used to take a few hours on research…can now take minutes.
But…only if you tee it up correctly. I’m going to break down how you can use it with an example of finding a potential teaming partner for an opportunity.
And I’ll give you everything as well. Why…? Well, I want to make you as effective as possible.
Was this newsletter forwarded to you?
We spend a lot of time researching, reviewing, trying to find the right companies, the right partners, the right small business to build our team, and the list goes on.
Let’s watch Perplexity help us with this. It can do a majority of the work for us, not ALL, but help us with a lot of it.
If you’re a small business, you spend time trying to find the right way to position yourself, you can leverage it the same. You just need to make sure you tee up Perplexity in the way to make sure you are asking it the right information. I’ll show you below.
Let’s dance.
First Touch - Start off on the Right Foot
Several tools out there do deep research that have cited materials. Gemini, OpenAI, Claude, etc. all have them. But I decided to change it up and go down the rabbit hole with Perplexity and somehow was able to make it work. When you make it work with a prompt, you usually like to stick with the tool and the prompt (at least in my case).
Perplexity Deep Research is only as good as what you make it. In my post from last week, Mastering the Prompt: A Five-Step Formula for Better Results I discussed the importance of preparing your prompt. The same goes here, the better you set up your prompt, the better off you’re going to be.
Our Example - Government Solicitation for AE Services
We are going to use the following opportunity as our test. To show you how you can build a team, and find individual partners, based on what specifically you are looking for and where you are in your current sales process.
Want to follow along? Here is the opportunity:
How to Set Yourself Up
Navigate over to Perplexity
Select the dropdown menu “Deep Research”
And start your prompt

Second Touch - Setup Your Prompt
Build your very detailed prompt to ask Perplexity specifically about what you need. In this example for NAVFAC, I broke down who I am and what I need:
I need you to be a government contracting expert with more than 25 years of experience winning prime contracts, setting up teaming agreements, and partnering with small businesses to win.
I will be the prime contractor on this opportunity. I want to find small businesses to partner with to build out a strong team for an upcoming contract with NAVFAC.
I am specifically looking for small businesses that have the following attributes:
Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned (certified by the Small Business Administration)
Company Services that either: architecture, repair, demolition, construction
Relevant experience at NAVFAC Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, ME; Naval Station Newport, RI; Naval Submarine Base New London, CT; Naval Weapons Station Earle, NJ; Philadelphia Navy Yard, PA; and Naval Station Great Lakes, IL
Include any and all information for the opportunity
I am looking for companies that have strong past performance in each of the categories and the main point of contact that I can reach out to. Include their LinkedIn profile so I can connect with them.
Make a table of your findings. Be sure to only look at the respected NAICS codes and the small business size standards, and in the right locations.
This is going to be a very competitive bid and I need to make sure I have a strong team assembled or we will not win. I need companies that have won and I can partner with them so we beat the competition and can answer the needs of NAVFAC. If the companies have worked with NAVFAC in the past, it works to our advantage

From there, Perplexity will then go and gather research on its end. You will get your results (including sourced material) that you can review. The more detailed instructions you provide, the better results you will get.
You don’t have to try to pack everything in the first prompt, I always recommend building it over a few prompts.
Third Touch - Your Research Assistant at Work
You have preliminary results. You can do a few things from here. I wanted to put this in a position to find out more about the competition as well.
You decided to see who else might be the Prime competitors for this opportunity. So I asked Perplexity to start the preparation of a Black Hat Review based on the Shipley Associates model.
If you are specifically asking for something, ask it.

Here is the link to the Perplexity thread of the overall breakdown of me going through the whole process of building this up in Perplexity and from the opportunity. Check it out below!
Pack Some Additional Punch
Here are a few tips to really hit it out of the park when reaching out
If you want to continue and make changes, keep building on the thread. The more specific the better
If you have a Perplexity Pro Account (which I do) you have 500 queries per day. Free Accounts only get 5 queries per day. Just situational awareness.
If you want to try Pro, here is my referral here if you’d like to save a few $$$ before signing up long term
This can do great research prior to a proposal
I’m constantly adding more and more information on how to leverage Perplexity (as well as other deep research tools) so you can use them to grow your business.
Build towards it, don’t jump the gun.
