LinkedIn is more than just a social media platform where you post. The real power lies in the engagement and sharing aspect of the platform to increase your visibility across it.
The often-overlooked yet incredibly impactful aspects of LinkedIn engagement. Simply posting content isn’t enough. The real value lies in how you interact with your network—and the secret to maximizing this interaction is through thoughtful, meaningful comments.
In this week’s newsletter, I want to touch on why comments are a game-changer for your LinkedIn strategy. From enhancing your visibility to strengthening your professional relationships, I’ll break down how every thoughtful comment you leave can transform your online presence.

Posts are typically seen by 10–15% of your followers. If you only engage by posting and not commenting, or sharing, the results can vary. Let’s bump those numbers up.
Let’s dance.

Engagement is the fuel that powers your LinkedIn presence, but most people overlook one of the most impactful forms of engagement—comments.
Read that again…comments boost your LinkedIn presence and visibility.
Posting great content is essential, but comments are where you solidify relationships and create lasting impressions. LinkedIn is a 2-way street.
Think of it this way: while likes and shares are passive forms of engagement, comments are active participation. When you take the time to leave a thoughtful comment, you're not just engaging with the post—you're positioning yourself as an expert, a thinker, and a person who cares about the conversation.
Building yourself to be a trusted advisor in your respected niche.
Commenting allows you to shape the narrative around your brand (personal and your business) and shows your audience that you're someone who listens, responds, and adds value.
So, add value to your clients, to your future clients, your partners, the list goes on.
Beyond that, the LinkedIn algorithm loves comments. The more comments a post gets, the more visible it becomes, meaning every time you engage meaningfully with a post, you're boosting its reach and your own.
Your comment has the potential to get more visibility than many standalone posts, making it an invaluable tool for brand building. Comments are a powerful way to make sure your voice is heard, loud and clear.
Second Touch - Turn Up the Volume on Value
Comments are the real conversations happening on LinkedIn.
Every time you leave one, you’re putting yourself in front of an audience—an audience that includes your peers, potential clients, partners, and even employers.
They can lead to meaningful connections, business opportunities, and insights that you may not have gained otherwise. A thoughtful comment shows your followers that you’re an active participant in your field, not just a passive observer.
Imagine scrolling through your LinkedIn feed in the morning, sipping your coffee, and seeing a post that aligns with your expertise.
Instead of simply liking the post and moving on, take a moment to craft a thoughtful, insightful comment. That small effort can change the course of your day.
Yes, they take time. You have to commit to doing it.
I do it every day. I dedicate time to do this.
Suddenly, you’ve sparked a dialogue, and now you’re engaged in a conversation that could lead to a new business connection or an invitation to speak at an industry event.
Whether you’re commenting on a client’s recent post or a company page, you have the ability to be seen in front of a large audience.
People are on LinkedIn to learn, to find new potential teaming partners, to understand what is going on in their industry.
Comment with engaging content that can help you develop trust among your peers, new clients, partners, and so on. Never assume they will be able to find you out of the blue. Build and build and continue to build.
Third Touch - Show Your Skills
By consistently leaving thoughtful comments, you position yourself as a thought leader in your industry. When people see your name pop up in discussions regularly, especially when your comments add value to the conversation, they start to associate your brand with expertise, leadership, and reliability.
LinkedIn is not just for content building, but also for content and industry trust as well. Right in the public eye for everyone to see.
Every comment you post is like a mini billboard for your skills and experience. If you’re serious about building a reputation, then make every comment count.
This engagement is especially important if you’re looking to expand your network or attract new business opportunities.
By offering insightful commentary on industry trends, challenges, and innovations, you become someone people want to follow and connect with. Your reputation as an industry expert grows naturally as more people engage with your content and your comments.
The algorithm, too, rewards this behavior by increasing your visibility, meaning your content (and your comments) will reach larger and more relevant audiences.
In the long run, these interactions can open doors you never anticipated—whether it’s an invitation to speak at an event, collaborate on a project, or land a client. Improving your comment strategy isn’t just about engagement; it’s about using engagement as a tool to unlock new opportunities in your professional journey.
Set a Target List to Comment
Starting today, commit to leaving at least one thoughtful comment per day on LinkedIn.
Do it with:
Your current clients
The clients you want to work with
Partners (and potential partners)
Leaders (i.e., CEOs, SVPs, Subject Matter Experts, influencers) in your respected industry
Pick posts that resonate with you, align with your expertise or tackle industry issues you’re passionate about.
Focus on adding value—whether that’s sharing a relevant insight, asking a thought-provoking question, or offering a different perspective. As you make this a daily habit, you'll start noticing a significant increase in engagement, visibility, and potential opportunities. This is where the real LinkedIn magic happens.
Daily. Commit to it.
Pack Some Additional Punch
Here are a few tips to really hit it out of the park when commenting:
Don’t just commit “Congratulations” or “That’s great!” or anything along those lines. Get authentic and personal. Show them you know what you’re talking about.
Encourage further discussion. Ask open-ended questions, and encourage the conversation to continue.
Don’t be selling yourself or your services. Be careful of self-promotion on someone else’s post. Be educational and professional in the discussion.
Conclude thoughtfully. Always leave a positive impression. If a thread is winding down, engage in a matter that will end the discussion on a high note.
Comments aren’t just a social media afterthought; they’re a critical part of your LinkedIn strategy. Each one is an opportunity to add value, share insights, and build relationships.
Participate in conversations rather than just observing them, you’re not only expanding your network but also reinforcing your expertise and credibility in the industry.
When you shift your mindset from “I’ll like this post” to “How can I add to this conversation?” you’ll start seeing LinkedIn engagement—and the opportunities that come with it—skyrocket.
So, next time you scroll through your feed, take an extra moment before hitting "like" and instead, leave a comment. Your future self—and your brand—will thank you.
Maybe you can’t do it at scale, but it sure is quality over quantity.
See you next week.
